How to Treat Anxiety
Anxiety is something that every one suffers from in their life. It can be a problem though when this worry happens all the time. Anxiety is a form of worry where you worry about an event, worry about the outcome and worry about everything linked to the event. If it’s a big event such as a hospital appointment or a major examination then a degree of worry is understandable. If you find that the anxiety extends to your everyday life then you may have a problem, one that you will need help for in one form or another.
You can try to help yourself by trying to identify what has triggered your problem. Too many worrying events in your life could be the simple explanation but it could be more complicated than this. If your life is full of worry and stress then you may be appearing to cope but you can’t do this forever. The stresses may come on you in a flurry or gradually but the problem will become evident. Start to identify the stresses in your life and then see what you can do about them.
Try if possible to remove stresses by removing any worries and responsibilities you can, if you can’t rid yourself totally then try and share the load. This is important whether it is at home or in the work place, whether with friends or family. Make sure you talk to family and friends that you know, and tell them that you are beginning to struggle and can’t carry on as you are. They will be the ones who see you coping with life and won’t know there is a problem until you say. Make them aware of all your problems and make them realise that things must change for your own sake; this will probably mean changes for them. They have to be made aware of the importance.
If this doesn’t work or if you think the problem is too much then seek professional help. Speak to your doctor as soon as you can and tell them everything happening to you. They may give you a stress and anxiety test where they will ask you a series of questions where you give your stress levels a number. The higher the number the higher the stress, the total answer will tell the doctor what is needed to treat you.
The doctor may offer you a number of treatments. There will be some medication they could offer for example or maybe they will refer you to a councillor or psychiatrist. It is wise to try these ideas and any other the doctor may have for you, even if you’re not sure- try them to see what happens. Whatever you do about your anxiety getting professional treatment and professional help is the first step on the road to recovery. Never be too proud to ask for help, never feel that you are thinking of yourself too much. You must put yourself first for your benefit and for others who rely on you and live with you.
