Tips How To Stop Anxiety
Getting through anxiety troubles is much easier to talk about on paper than it is to put into practice. Anxiety itself is a very devastating condition for those that suffer. But the question often presents itself: is there any way to stop being so anxious? Is there anything I can do to stop worrying so much? It’s possible, but it’s not as easy as flipping a switch. Allow me to explain. …..
There’s a few things to consider when you are actually there facing your anxiety. Here are some things you should know. These are natural ways for you to try and calm yourself down before things get out of control.
For starters, taking deep breaths might be an easy way for you to start calming yourself down. The most effective ways are the ones that you can feel deep in your stomach, amusingly known as “belly breaths.” Within a few of these, you should notice that your heart rate would slow some and you start to quiet yourself on the inside. This is a solid place to begin because it doesn’t require a lot of thinking or action, and in many cases it is very effective.
Typically, anxiety comes from the unknown. You can worry yourself sick thinking about the “what ifs”, or things that you don’t actually understand. So logically, something you can do to keep yourself from getting to the point of excessive anxiety would be to get, and keep yourself informed. Whether you are nervously pacing in the waiting room of a doctor or dentist, or whatever has you worried, you can benefit greatly from staying in the know. Whether it’s learning the ins and outs of a procedure or treatment regiment, or knowing and coming to terms with the worst-case scenarios, knowledge can often be a much-needed companion to anxiety woes.
Another healthy part of naturally approaching an end to your anxiety is to accept uncertainty. The world is full of possibilities, and no one can plan or approach them prepared all the time. Allowing yourself to accept that you cannot control every aspect of your life, and being okay with this revelation, will take you leaps and bounds towards recovery. Most anxiety stems from a traumatic event or circumstance in an individual’s life that has called parts of their world into question. Understanding that you cannot provide yourself an itinerary for how the world works, can be one of the most powerful breakthroughs you can make when tackling an anxiety disorder.
Some other helpful tips involve attempting to remedy some thought patterns that feed into anxiety. One of these is the all or nothing approach. An example of this is not succeeding. If you complete a task you are the ultimate victor, but not completing it as was projected, means that you are a total failure. It’s the inherit fear of being this failure that spurs anxiety. Another bad thought process is personalization. With this negative pattern, the sufferer convinces him or herself that they were responsible for things that are out of their control. An example being: I didn’t tell my sister to drive more carefully when I got a chance to, and then she was in an accident. I should have told her, it’s my fault. This, among many other negative patterns only feed into the problem.
Overcoming anxiety doesn’t have to be a steep ascent, but for many people it is. If you are struggling to defeat your worries and fears, don’t give up. It’s a marathon to better health, not a sprint.
